About this settlement
Data breach exposed patients' personal and health information
Summary
Community Dental Care (CD), a Minnesota-based nonprofit dental services provider, suffered a targeted cyberattack on its computer systems in December 2024 in which files containing private information were allegedly accessed by an unauthorized actor. Affected data may have included names, health insurance information, dates of birth, medical information, and Social Security numbers. CD denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle the resulting class action, pending in the District Court for Ramsey County, Minnesota. Under the settlement, all Class Members may enroll in two years of CyEx Medical Shield Complete monitoring with $1 million of medical identity theft insurance, and may also claim either reimbursement of up to $5,000 in documented out-of-pocket losses or a flat $50 alternative cash payment. The claims deadline is October 19, 2026, with final approval expected to follow a November 23, 2026 hearing.
