Summary
Three consolidated class actions allege the City of New York held people in unconstitutional conditions at its Central Booking facilities. The City denies wrongdoing but will pay up to $21,500,000. Class members receive up to $475 per detention, which may be reduced by City liens or unpaid child support.
Who qualifies
People detained at Brooklyn Central Booking between April 8, 2017 and December 27, 2019, or at any Central Booking location between February 3, 2020 and March 1, 2023. Membership and payment are based on NYDOC detention records.
Suits does not handle payments or process claims. Payments are issued by the claim administrator and typically take 3-6 months.
